Garden detail
A space swinging from indoors and outdoors, where light is the absolute protagonist; an open square that promotes a harmonious dialogue between the natural surroundings and architecture. The garden, a recess in the facade, obtained by removing the roof and demolishing the flooring, features the original structures as a statement of gres art 671's industrial past and a way to preserve its history.

Despite the totally new space, the garden is perfectly integrated with the surrounding building, as if it had always been part of it. Not a place to admire, but a space to experiment on a daily basis; a corner to rest, an educational space and a stage setting for cultural and social events.

The unveiled garden is a relaxing oasis where the seating, designed to welcome people and yet delimit the lawn, creates a connection between those who rest in the shade of the trees and their surroundings. The art 671 garden is the perfect place for savouring art, engaging in cultural discussions, getting lost in a good book, or letting music envelop us.

In the evening, when the lights of Viabizzuno's 'Campanule', beautifully shaped lamps inspired by mountain flowers, are turned on, the garden suddenly turns into a cosy and intimate setting, bringing a feeling of serenity.

Installation "DISASTRO" NONE collective
This year, when Bergamo and Brescia were named 2023 Italian Capital of Culture, gres art 671 pays homage to the so-called ‘Illuminated city’ thanks to an exhibition which projects the visitor into futuristic scenarios, looking for a new perspective on the challenges imposed by climate change. The SOLARPUNK exhibition is a performance space, a laboratory of perceptive investigation to experience change. NONE collective works on overlapping: artificial and human, numbers and nature, memory and imagination, developing projects that interpret the condition of man in the digital society. SOLARPUNK is a transmedia exhibition where the experience is at the heart. Solarpunk is a literary and artistic movement that conceives and works to create a sustainable future, intertwined with nature and community. ‘Solar’ refers to solar energy, seen as a renewable source of energy and an optimistic vision of a future that rejects the idea of climate catastrophism. ‘Punk’, on the other hand, refers to the countercultural, post-capitalist and decolonial enthusiasm, essential to build such a future.

Scenario 1: "What if there were no fossil fuels and the sun were the only source of energy? We would use the energy offered by the sun."

The bright side of the sun: the light installation is composed of an array of 625 halogen lamps, reflected in a framework of mirrors, creating the visual effect of a 50 m diameter sphere. The energy of the installation is precisely that of the sun, in fact, it comes from renewable sources. Thanks to a visual effect achieved through non-parallel mirror panels, looking inside the installation, the visitors discover a ‘quadrisphere’ much larger than its container. The caustic lights given by the reflections on the Mylar evoke the light of the galaxy. The sun reflected is about 20 m in diameter and the solar energy reproduced is about 30 Kwh.

Scenario 2:"What if climate disasters became more and more frequent? We would be gathering in resilient communities, sharing resources and hopes. Because we’re all on the same boat."

Disaster: light installation composed of a vibrant platform and a ring light which projects the shades of the visitors on the walls. Dis-astro (disaster), which literally means ‘with no stars’, because with no references you may get lost. Visitors are all reunited on a drafting raft, their bodies are the only presence on scene, a bulwark of hopeful humanity looking for holds and landing places.

Scenario 3:"What if we could not stay outside and had to take solar showers for health reasons? We would share a moment of care and meditation together. There would be indoor light therapy for humans."

Solarium: light installation composed of UV dynamic lights on the ceiling, surrounded by mirror-walls. On the floor, there are cushions to lie on.

Three artists play and create their music in the setting of SOLARPUNK, an immersive and transmedia exhibition by gres art 671. The sound of two saxophones and a guitar intertwine to find a new lease of life and references to the electronic landscapes and luminous reflections of the art installations, mutually donating unusual sound perspectives to one another. Two forms of art meet in a new metaphysical space, transforming the large 671 gallery into a unique place for art hybridization: here contemporary art and music meet, and their language is a play of mirrors.

Tino Tracanna, saxophonist and composer from 1981 to early ‘90s, he is a member of the Franco D’Andrea Group, with whomhe participates in several national and international jazz festivals . Since 1995, he has been teaching in different Italian Conservatories, and since 2000 he’s been Tenured Professor and Coordinator of Jazz Classes at Conservatory ‘Conservatorio Verdi’ of Milan. Inhis flourishing career, he has collaborated and recorded with a number of Italian and international musicians, recording over 120 albums as solo guest.

Massimiliano Milesion is a member of the Wayne Horvitz European Orchestra, an ensemble composed of some of the most important improvisers in Europe. In collaboration with Tino Tracanna, he founded Double Cut and isthe project leader of OOFTH. In his career, he has collaborated with different New York musicians and attended several national and international festivals.

Marco Pasinetti, guitarist, composer and improviser. He grew up in rock and blues environments, cutting his professional teeth on hundreds of night events next to many musicians from Lombrady. With them, he recorded several disks and took part in festivals all over Italy. Then, he became passionate about jazz and improvising. He studied at the Siena Jazz Academy and integrated these new trends into his musical research, which is now genre-limitless.

Unexpected Encounters is an event organized in collaboration with the International Piano Festival of Brescia Bergamo and Bergamo Jazz. The International Piano Festival of Brescia and Bergamo is one of the world’s most important events dedicated to the piano, intended both as a solo instrument and as a prestigious member of large orchestras.Conceived by Maestro Agostino Orizio, the first edition of the Festival was held in 1964 to test international pianism, and has now been hosting the most famous orchestras and soloists in the splendid settings of the Grand Theatre in Brescia and the Donizetti Theatre Bergamo for over fifty years. The Festival hosts not only some of the greatest pianists - to mention a few, Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, protagonist of the first five editions, to Magaloff, from Richter to Arrau, Pollini, Ashkenazy, Radu Lupu, Zimerman, Brendel, Martha Argerich, Evgenij Kissin, Grigory Sokolov - but also musicians, singers and conductors of the calibre of Mstislav Rostropovich, Mischa Maisky, Uto Ughi, Luciano Pavarotti, Riccardo Muti, Claudio Abbado, Gergiev, Giulini, Sawallisch, Solti, Maazel Chung. Among the orchestras, there are the Berliner Philharmoniker, the Wiener Philharmoniker, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the London Symphony, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Philharmonic of Israel, the Saint Petersburg Philharmonic, the Nationale de France, the Orchestra of the Academy of Santa Cecilia in Rome, the Philharmonic of the Scala. The long history of the Jazz Festival of Bergamo, one of the most relevant of the sector in Europe, can be divided in two parts: the fist, from 1969 to the early ‘80s, named ‘International Festival of Jazz’ and organized by the Italian Local Tourist Office; the second, from 1991 and on, under the aegis of Bergamo Jazz and Teatro Donizetti. There’s an ideal, unbreakable bond between the ‘old’ and the ‘new’ Festival: the same artistic thread which, by virtue of a proactive approach, mirrors the various, coexisting souls of jazz. Numerous international artists have taken part in the Festival: Dizzy Gillespie, Keith Jarrett, Gerry Mulligan, Charles Mingus, Art Ensemble of Chicago, Max Roach, Herbie Hancock, Archie Shepp, Ornette Coleman, Gato Barbieri, John Scofield, Jim Hall, McCoy Tyner, Bill Frisell, Jan Garbarek and many more. Since 2006, the Artistic Direction of Bergamo Jazz has been assigned to an important international musician and the current Artistic Director is the American saxophonist Joe Lovano.

the work Solis Silos
One of the symbols of the new life of gres art 671 are the seven silos placed at the entrance. Seven corten steel giants, 10 metres high, 3.5 metres in diameter and weighing 39 tons, designed by Mario Nanni, manufactured and lit by Viabizzuno, welcome the public and become a hallmark of the walkway towards gres art. Architectural elements that have, in turn, a story to tell. Indeed, they are the constructions that, during Expo 2015, inhabited the centre of Milan, in Brera, and that, at gres art 671, once again, speak of regeneration and restitution.

These objects, adapted to the urban scale, conceal a meticulous attention to detail, typical of domestic objects. The volumes are made of iron in its natural state, a material evolving both in its surface and colour.

Influencing both the surfaces and the moments shared with the public, for the seven silos, the passage of time is essential. These imposing cylinders create a perspective cone that guides and punctuates the walkway to the entrance, while offering a restful place for those who wish to sit on their plinths.

Art and creativity cross the building to reach the landscape, the surroundings and the urban context. Not only do the seven silos dialogue with each other, but also and above all, with the architecture and the city, becoming an integral part of the space. An architecture to inspire, to welcome, to rest.
Viabizzuno is a company that for more than twenty years has been making design its own reason for living. Design is a way of being, thinking, and acting that permeates every action and thought in life. Design is building ourselves, improving considerably. To Viabizzuno, design should not be meant as a simple professional activity, but as a way to establish a relationship with life and others. design means to build something that lasts beyond temporary trends. every project is a promise, a suggestion of quality and value. It is the way to fix the disorder of the world. Viabizzuno works, designs, produces, researches, and innovates while training its staff. for years it has been creating its own design philosophy to assert itself day by day not only as an industrial reality. Viabizzuno also aims to create an ethical design process. Viabizzuno's strength relies on working toward a customized design, finding solutions that did not exist before, integrating light with architecture, and creating a recognizable image all over the world thanks to its formal and thinking integrity at the same time. Board games, such as backgammon, chess, checkers, and bagh chal, can be found in this area. Marina Abramović's performances often incorporate objects and materials that become integral to the piece and help the artist communicate her ideas.

The artist often employs natural materials or common objects such as combs, vases, or glasses. Once integrated into the performance, these items undergo a transformation and take on new significance.

Families will have the opportunity to explore new uses for objects and materials, transforming them into performance elements and building lasting memories and stories.

The activities and visual paths are designed for families with children aged 3 to 5 years old, with approaches and language suitable for young children, to introduce the new generations to contemporary art.

Unique atmosphere, comfortable ambience: here is where taste and creativity meet. gres café is key to the overall experience of gres art 671, a space where people can get together, plan their visits to exhibitions or simply relax and immerse themselves in the atmosphere of gres art 671. The décor takes inspiration from the material that used to be produced here, stoneware (gres in Italian). The large, rust-coloured stoneware tiles, reminiscent of the pipes of the former production, evoke the story of the space. Made of stoneware are also the pipes cut in different sections, now used as pots for the plants located in the refreshment area.

The gres café atmosphere is inspired by public space and urban environments such as the square, the arcade and the terrace. A place, set at the edge of the large spans, where the public is free to move around or stop to work or study in peace. A space of gathering, culture, and engaging conversations. The careful selection of food and beverages is designed to satisfy all tastes: from morning breakfasts at the café to happy hours, when the venue lives up, becoming an even more stimulating environment. A perfect place to spend time alone, meet someone or simply find inspiration.

the future of the Sun through children’s eyes

An engaging workshop in dialogue with the artworks of the SOLARPUNK exhibition. The installations lead us to envision a future where we can’t have access to the warmth of the sun or be in the open air, thereby turning to light therapy. Picturing a future where directly observing the sunlight is impossible, the young participants in the workshop will create a visual repository of the sun. A collection of drawings to depict the various shades of the sun during the day. An original insight seen through the always original and authentic perspective of children.

With this activity, girls and boys will be encouraged to reflect on the vital importance of the sun and sunlight for our survival on planet Earth. We’ll explore how we can respect our planet by making sustainable choices. Divided into different workstations, children will be asked to leave to future generations an artistic repository of drawings of the sun made with different artistic techniques and materials. They will be encouraged to give different interpretations of the Sun, and their artworks will be hung on a large wall, one next to the other, shaping a collective repository of luminous creations.

The exhibition “between breath and fire”, curated by Karol Winiarczyk, celebrates the fascination of Marina Abramović for the Opera, and particularly her passion for Maria Callas, that is manifested in Seven Deaths: an immersive cinematic experience that explores seven untimely demises Abramović undergoes on screen, set to Maria Callas’s solos. gres art 671 combines beauty and social impact, developing sustainable models that promote collective well-being. A place to go, to discover, to experiment, to stay, born with an ambitious urban regeneration project promoted by Gruppo Italmobiliare and Fondazione Pesenti Ets.

Seven Deaths is an immersive cinematic experience based on seven untimely demises that Abramović undergoes on screen, set to the soundtrack of seven solos by Maria Callas. It continues Abramović’s fascination with opera and Callas in particular, a passion that began in her teenage years in Belgrade. This immersive journey through the life of one of the most influential performance artists of our time, paired with the soundtrack of Maria Callas most famous arias, offers a profound and existential experience.

Karol Winiarczyk, curator

We are delighted to inaugurate gres art 671 in its final form with Marina Abramović, a world-renowned artist who has always placed the audience at the heart of her work. Our cultural hub was conceived with the ambition of engaging visitors through interactive spaces and artworks, fostering an active role in the artistic experience. Following a preview during the Bergamo Brescia Italian Capital of Culture 2023, hosting "between breath and fire" marks the convergence of an extraordinary artist's vision and a cultural hub's mission. We are proud of this perfect synergy and confident that it will evoke profound emotions.
