bookshop
The carefully curated selection of books at the gres art 671 bookshop focuses on the main modern and contemporary artistic movements, with a particular emphasis on photography, performance, architecture and music as well as underground and subaltern cultures, in keeping with gres art’s artistic research and exhibitions.
The bookshop is curated by Gres Art 671 in collaboration with Paint It Black , an independent publishing house founded in Turin in 2022, and a bookshop conceived as a space for experimentation and exchange dedicated to the visual and performing arts.
The collaboration aims to enhance and expand the concept of publishing to create connections with other forms of artistic expression, opening up new spaces for dialogue and cross-fertilisation across various languages.
gallery
gres art 671 is located in a post-industrial area, where the complex formerly known as the ‘ex-Gres’ once stood. The building dates back to the middle of the last century and its architectural features are typical of industrial buildings of that period. Today, however, it has something unique: it survived the demolition of Bergamo’s historic industrial fabric in the wake of the city’s urban development.
to enhance the building’s historical significance, the decision was made to explore new architectural possibilities while respecting and transforming the original value of the structure, giving the complex a new lease of life and a new purpose. Through interventions such as the modification of the façade and the creation of a garden, gres art 671 has taken on a contemporary dimension, while leaving clear traces of its industrial past intact.
the result is a large square – an open, lively and welcoming space – which provides access to the two pavilions, divided into two large bays: the first dedicated to reception, the second to exhibition projects.
while the starting point for gres art 671 was a former industrial complex, its end point is a public place for social and cultural interaction, and its identity is gradually being built by those who frequent it and the cultural initiatives that take place here.
